Transcription: An important milestone in the realization of the International Space Station was the agreement by Russia in 1993 to join the program, thereby making available a vast store of experience and knowledge gained as a result of the Salyut and Mir space stations. Phase 1 consists of 10 shuttle flights to Mir as a prelude to building a new space station beginning in 1997.
